3 movies to watch during quarantine

In this delicate moment that we are living with COVID-19, in which social distance is necessary to contain the spread of the virus, it is necessary to find new ways to occupy free time. Considering that, we brought in this post the indication of 3 movies that, in its plot, cover energy, being that electric, solar or wind energy. Check out below our suggestions and comment if you have watched or if you will watch any of these movies.
- The boy who harnessed the wind (2019)
Based on real events and set in Malawi, one of the poorest countries in Africa, the movie presents the story of William who, at the age of 13, had to leave the school to help his parents. Self-taught, the boy discovered through reading books the operation of windmills. So using improvised materials William built two windmills which set a pump that captures water from the well. Thus, through innovation, it was possible to irrigate the plantation that would be lost due to drought without the mills.
- The current war (2017)
Based on real events and set in the late 19th century, the film covers a dispute between Thomas Edison and George Westinghouse. They discussed how electricity should be distributed. Edison campaigns for the use of direct current, while Westinghouse, in turn, defends alternating current. The episode that gave rise to the film became known as The Current War. At the time, they were trying to find out what would be the best way to popularize electrical energy.
- Catching the sun (2016)
It is a documentary by Shalini Kantayya, which presents the climate crisis and follows the story of unemployed American workers that are seeking an oportunity in the solar energy market in Richmond, California. The workers’ saga is intertwined not only with the story of an activist, but also with the story of Chinese businessmen who seeks the world leadership to move towards a clean energy future.
