Conscious power consumption

Publicado em 3 de November de 2020

Conscious consumption does not only involve the purchase of material goods but also the use of inputs such as electrical power. Therefore, to consume power with consciousness is vital to sustainable development and it contributes to reduce the impact on nature. To help you with this we brought you some tips to consume power in a conscious way:

– If the battery of your phone is already complete, remember to turn off the charger. If connected to the outlet, the charger will continue to consume power;

– The refrigerator is one of the biggest residential consumers and it corresponds to more than 25% of the total consumption of a residence. Therefore, avoid to open the refrigerator frequently;

– Turn off your appliances when you are not using them. Stand by mode increases power consumption in 20%;

– When you leave the room, remember to turn off your computer monitor or put your computer in stand by mode;

– Air conditioning can represent up to 15% of your power bill and, therefore, you need to use it consciously. Install the device in an environment with good air circulation and when using it keep doors and windows closed. Remember to change the filter and thus avoid the accumulation of dirt, which could prevent the free circulation of air. Finally, remember to turn off the device when you leave the room.

– Lighting represents up to 30% of your power bill. To avoid unnecessary costs, take advantage of natural light. Remember to turn off the light in rooms that are not being used. Prefer LED or fluorescent lamps, which consume less power and offer better lighting.
