Deregulated Energy Market: accession increases in 2020

According to Canal Energia, the number of consumers in the brazilian deregulated energy market grew by 22.9% in 2020. The average monthly membership was 143 new consumers, the highest migration average since 2016. Just to give you an idea, the average in 2019 was 118 migrations per month. The deregulated energy market ended the first half of 2020 with 7,812 consumers, that is, with an increase of 22.9% if compared to the same period last year.
For CCEE, this number is a reflection of the 25% growth in the number of special consumers. In addition, the volume of deregulated energy consumers also grew (9%).
Canal Energia also said that the number of adherence processes grew 41% in June when compared to the same period last year. Thus, in June alone, 1,049 migration processes were registered. Most of them were made up of special consumers, which corresponds to 796 orders under analysis. In addition, four new traders and 17 plants were classified as independent energy producers.
Finally, it is observed that 102 of the total consumers who joined the free market in June have a load of up to 1MW. 22 of them, on the other hand, have a load between 1MW and 1.99MW. 11 adhesions have a load greater than 2MW. Through the analysis of the data provided, it is clear that the services sector was responsible for the largest number of adhesions.
