Deregulated Energy Market: submarkets
Publicado em 1 de March de 2021
The National Interconnected System (SIN) allows the flow of energy between different Brazilian regions. Due to the physical restrictions presented by the Transmission System, there is a limitation for the free transition of energy between the interconnected regions. For this reason, the SIN was divided into four submarkets, which are: Southeast / Midwest, South, Northeast and North.
This division is not the same as the geographical one, so some states are part of a region geographically and, at the same time, belong to another submarket. This is the case with Acre, which belongs to the North in the geographical division and which, through the SIN, is part of the Southeast / Midwest submarket. The energy exchange can be done between submarkets that share a border.
According to Aneel, submarkets are divisions for which specific PLDs (Settlement Prices for Differences) are established. Its boundaries are defined as a result of the presence and duration of relevant transmission restrictions to the electricity flows of the National Interconnected System.
