Tips to save energy during the winter

Winter time began a few weeks ago in Brazil and it’s known that electricity bills usually get higher due to cold weather which stimulate the use of home appliances in maximum power. Besides that, due to quarantine, more people are staying home and the use of electric shower, iron, washers and dryers, electric water faucet and other home appliances make the electricity bills go higher.
The shower is one of the villains during winter and it consumes on average 30% more energy than during warmer days. Water consumption is also higher, since baths take more time. In addition to paying attention on bath duration, it is also necessary to be attentive not only to the lighting of the environment, turning off the lamps when leaving the rooms, but also to the equipment of intermittent use in sockets, which interfere in the energy consumption and in the effectiveness of others gadgets. According to Eletrobrás, the equipments that consume more energy are: air conditioning, fridge, electric shower, lighting, television, iron and washer. Therefore, bellow you’ll find some tips to save energy during winter time:
– Avoid long baths and do not adapt the shower resistance.
– Avoid shaving and washing lingerie while showering.
– When washing the dishes, clean the remains of food and then rinse all the dishes at once.
– Only wash clothes in the machine when the basket is full. When washing clothes in the tank, turn off the tap while soaping the pieces.
– When using air conditioning, keep doors and windows closed.
– Accumulate a considerable amount of clothes before using the electric iron. Besides that remember to use the temperature indicated for each type of fabric, starting with the delicate items and taking advantage of the heat after turning off the appliance to iron light clothes.
– Do not open the fridge door unnecessarily and avoid storing food when it is still hot.
– Turn off the television if no one is watching it.
