Tips to use power safely

The electricity is with us in all moments o four daily life but, if it isn’t correctly used, it can be responsible for damages to people’s health or damages to companies and homes. Considering that, we brought some tips to use power safely, so you can avoid risks while using electricity:

  1. Do not leave bare wires;
  2. Do not use home appliances if your hands are weat;
  3. If you have children, remenber to use plug protectors;
  4. Do not make clandestine power connections;
  5. Remember to unplug your appliances in case of power blackout;
  6. Avoid to use your home appliances during a storm;
  7. Do not climb poles with electrical networks. If necessary, contact your local distribution company;
  8. Keep your distance from power cables lying on the street;
  9. Do not install the television antenna close to the electrical network;
  10. Avoid using adaptors to plug multiple devices into a single outlet;
  11. Do not set fire or set off fireworks close to the power grid;
  12. Be careful while using ladders, rebars and scaffolding close to the power grid;
  13. When leaving the house empty for a long period, remember to turn off the main switch;
  14. Whenever you have problems related to electric power, look for the electric utility that serves your city.

According to the brazilian National Electric Energy Agency, hundreds of accidents occur in the country every year due to contact with the power grid and many of the deaths related to electric shocks occurred in construction and building maintenance services, as well as during tree pruning and the installation of television antennas. The Agency also stresses that, to use power safely, every electrical service must be performed by a specialized professional who has individual protection equipment and can perform the activity safely.
